Maria Sharapova withdraws from Rome Masters
In an incredible turn of events, Russian tennis ace Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the BNL Rome Masters. Sara Errani has been handed a walk-over to the semi finals.
Sharapova said on her Facebook page: “I’m sorry I’ll be withdrawn from this morning. I have not recovered from the flu last week, and it came back last night. This is one of my favorite tournaments of the year, and I look forward to returning next year.”
Errani will be making history by playing in the semi final of the tournament. Last time an Italian played in the semi final of this tournament was 28 years ago.
