Martina Hingis to come out of retirement to play doubles
Former world No. 1 and Swiss tennis legend Martina Hingis is set to make a comeback out of her retirement and play doubles at the Southern California Open in Carlsbad.
The five-time Grand Slam champion hasn’t made an appearance on the court since 2007, and will team up with Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova in Carlsbad.
Hingis is excited to play professional tennis again. In an interview, she said: “I am very much looking forward to making a return to competitive play at the Southern California Open.
“I remember winning the singles and doubles here in 1997 and winning the singles again in 1999. This has always been one of my favorite events to play.
“My competitive spirit is still very much alive and I love being out on the court.”
