Martina Navratilova slammed by Indian Twitter users on JNU issue
Tennis legend Martina Navratilova was engaged in a Twitter battle with many Indian users of the social media network recently. The problem started with Navratilova, a multiple Grand Slam winner tweeting an article from the New York Times on the JNU issue that has gripped the nation.
Fans on social media did not take to this too lightly and tweeted back to the tennis player showing their discontent on an 'outsider' sharing such news pieces. The article in question was written by an Indian columnist Nilanjana Roy.
Navratilova first tweeted the following, related to the JNU:
What Passes for Sedition in India, -ultra nationalism easily turns into violence at worst, bullying at best. https://t.co/U5V6nvENFn
— Martina Navratilova (@Martina) February 22, 2016
Tweeters were not happy with the fact that a foreign player was sharing her views on India's problems. The first set of tweets were addressing the fact that Navratilova should mind her own business and only worry about the issues in her country.
@Martina you seem to be more worried about India than Indians themselves. Pls don't advice unsolicited.

@Martina trust me, you cannot care about India more that patriotic Indians. RW is not an Indian category-each Indian is both LW & RW.

Diyar @martina! Only Yummerikans have the right to be patriotic & nationalist? No wonder, America - land of the stoopid & the ignorant!
— Marut (@Marut_) February 22, 2016
There were even a few tweets which targeted her ancestry.
@Martina coming from someone who escaped brutal communist regime into free land of USA to support violent communists against democratic govt

While some users even brought up large-scale terrorism into the discussion.
Dear .@Martina, if you happen to praise Bin Laden in the U.S. & call for it's destruction, I'm very sure you will be behind bars.

And when she was repeatedly targeted, she did have one good reply, similar to her playing days.
@meonsky123 not lecturing anyone- but you are just nasty- bye.
— Martina Navratilova (@Martina) February 22, 2016
@Un_Spin you are just making stuff up now- sorry- blocked.
— Martina Navratilova (@Martina) February 22, 2016
It was not all bad for Navratilova, though, she did get some support but certainly this issue would have left her bruised. Credit to the tennis ace for keeping her cool, unlike some of the people who tweeted to her.
@joshisona thank you. I try
