Mexico Open: Leander Paes and Jeremy Chardy crash out in first round
Veteran Indian star Leander Paes and his French partner Jeremy Chardy crashed out of the first round at the Mexico Open after losing straight sets in Acapulco, Mexico on Thursday.
The Indo-French combination was no match for the Austrian-French team of Oliver Marach and Fabrice Martin, going down 2-6, 4-6.
Marach and Martin will now meet the American duo of Scott Lipsky and Eric Butorac in the quarter-finals on Friday. The Americans had defeated Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram 7-6, 6-0 in the opening round.
Paes and Chardy suffered an early jolt in the opening set when their serve was broken in the third game. They never recovered from there as Marach and Martin clinched another break of serve in the seventh game before serving out the set.
The Indo-French team suffered another early blow in the second, surrendering their serve in the third game. Marach and Martin held on to their advantage from there to clinch a well-deserved victory.
