Danielle Collins vs Erika Andreeva preview
Top seed Danielle Collins will kick off her quest in Monterrey against Erika Andreeva in the second round, having received a bye in the first.
Collins holds a 39-13 match record so far in what is her last year on tour. She picked up the biggest title of her career in Miami this year, beating fourth seed Elena Rybakina in the final. She followed it up with a second title in the following week, blowing away fourth seed Daria Kasatkina in the Charleston final. She made the summit clash in Strasbourg but went down to compatriot Madison Keys. She also reached the last four in Rome, succumbing to second seed Aryna Sabalenka.
Seeded 11th at the French Open, Collins suffered a shock defeat in round two to an inspired Olga Danilovic. She made the fourth round of Wimbledon where she went down to eventual champion Barbora Krejickova. Collins last played at the Olympics where she reached the quarterfinals in the singles, going down to top seed Iga Swiatek, and the second round in the doubles event alongside compatriot Desirae Krawczyk.
Andreeva, meanwhile, holds a 30-21 overall match record this year, with her exploits split evenly between the ITF series and the WTA tour. She made her main draw debut in Linz after plowing through the qualifiers but lost to Dayana Yastremska in the first round. She picked up one main draw win each in Cluj and Qatar after making it through the qualifiers but failed to progress any further.
Andreeva reached the last eight of the LTP Charleston Challenger and the Paris WTA 125K. She impressed everybody watching at Wimbledon, powering her way through the qualifiers en route to a second-round loss to Donna Vekic. She kicked off her American hard-court summer at the Canadian Open where she lost in the first round despite winning the first set. Another disappointing defeat in the second round of qualifiers followed at the Cincinnati Open last week.
Andreeva kicked off her campaign in Monterrey against Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina in the first round. She dominated the encounter from start to finish, recording an emphatic 6-1, 6-4 win.

Danielle Collins vs Erika Andreeva prediction
Danielle Collins heads into her Monterrey opener as the firm favorite to advance, given her superior form throughout the year. Her better hardcourt record overall also gives her the edge. Although she has not competed since the Olympics, that does not hinder someone ranked as high as No. 11 in the women's charts. She has consistently displayed that she belongs at the top, and a deep run in Monterrey is considered somewhat of a certainty given her rich vein of form all season.
Andreeva, meanwhile, has impressed throughout the year in the qualifiers but has failed to recreate the same impact in the main draw. She's consistently made the main draws of WTA tournaments but has also consistently failed to make it past the second round. She looked solid in her Monterrey opener, dominating both on serve and the return. She didn't drop her serve once while also reaping rewards on the return, breaking serve three times out of seven.
Collins should make it through her encounter with relative ease despite not having played for nearly 20 days. Her experience at the biggest stages along with her hard court expertise should see her dominate the 20-year-old Russian. Andreeva on the contrary will have to piece together a monumental all-round effort if she is to cause an upset. Serving well and making early inroads on the return will be key.
Pick: Collins in straight sets.
