Marcos Giron vs Benoit Paire preview
Following a first-round bye, second seed Marcos Giron will square off against Benoit Paire in the second round of the Hall of Fame Open.
Giron failed to win a match Down Under but tasted success upon returning to the US as he made the final of the Dallas Open, losing to Tommy Paul. He reached the semifinals of the Delray Beach Open the next week, going down to Taylor Fritz.
The American concluded the hardcourt season on a three-match losing streak. He commenced the clay swing with a quarterfinal in Houston but won only one more match on the surface for the rest of the season. He has performed decently on grass since then, with a quarterfinal finish in Halle, and the second-round exits from Stuttgart, Eastbourne and Wimbledon.
Paire kicked off his campaign in Newport against Zachary Svajda. The Frenchman raced to a 3-0 lead in the first set and despite giving away a part of his lead, remained in front to clinch the set.
Svajda struck back to capture the second set as he broke his older rival's serve twice to do so. The third set went down to the wire as both players threw the kitchen sink at each other. Paire squandered his lead twice but ultimately came out on top in the tie-break to score a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (4) win.
Marcos Giron vs Benoit Paire head-to-head
This will be the first career meeting between the two, so the head-to-head stands at 0-0 for now.

Marcos Giron vs Benoit Paire prediction
Paire dug deep to edge past Svajda in his opener. The Frenchman overcame 12 double faults as he fired 48 winners en route to his second win at the ATP level since the start of 2023. A regular fixture on the main tour until a few years ago, he now mainly grinds on the Challenger and ITF circuits.
Paire's win over Svajda was also his first on grass since 2019, when he made the fourth round of Wimbledon. Giron has been a little inconsistent but has won at least one match in every grass tournament this season.
The American's serving performance puts him in 35th place over the past year. He has won 81 percent of his service games, and has won 72.9 percent of his first serve points. Paire used to be a tricky player to handle but he doesn't have the same aura anymore. Giron should be able to easily deal with the Frenchman to advance further.
Pick: Marcos Giron to win in straight sets.
