
37-year-old Tatjana Maria becomes oldest WTA champ since Serena Williams, celebrates emotionally with tennis player daughter amid cheers from family
German professional tennis player, Tatjana Maria, at 37, has become the oldest player to clinch a WTA title since the legendary Serena Williams. After the historic feat, the player celebrated her win with her daughter, 11-year-old Charlotte Maria who is herself a budding tennis player.
Tatjana Maria has now captured four singles and four doubles titles on the WTA Tour, and she has one singles title on the WTA Challenger Tour. She defeated World No. 15 Amanda Anisimova in the WTA 500 final at the 2025 Queen's Club Championships.
In their last meeting at the Beijing qualifiers in 2018, the German player had defeated Anisimova in three sets. In her semi-final clash at Queen's HSBC Championships 2025, Maria defeated second seed Madison Keys, the Australian Open champion.
After celebrating her victory, Tatjana Maria went to the box and shared a heartfelt moment with her 11-year-old daughter, Charlotte Maria. She is married to a French former tennis player, Charles Edouard Maria, who is also her coach. Together they have two daughters, Charlotte and Cecilia.
The former Wimbledon semi-finalist has also won 34 singles and doubles titles on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour circuit. The notable German player had lost nine matches on the trot before entering the HSBC Championships 2025. The WTA 500 title is Maria's first major title in two years.
The Bad Saulgau, West Germany native has also made more than 15 appearances in the Billie Jean King Cup competitions throughout her career.
Tatjana Maria reflects on her rejuvenated form at the 2025 Queen's Club Championships

After clinching the historic win at Queen's Club Championships 2025, Tatjana Maria shared her thoughts on her revitalised form. In her post-match interview, she said via WTA's official Instagram post:
"You always have to keep going. I mean, you never can stop. Doesn't matter how it goes. I think I'm a really good example for this. I had my ups and downs, but you always have to keep going. And I love to play tennis. I love this sport."
She continued:
"And we live for this special moment and that's why also, it's amazing and I cannot realize this. Like I said, to be here with my family, my team, it makes it so special, that they are here and watching me and we live this dream together. So, it's really, really nice."
Maria was also selected to represent her country in the sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
