Andy Murray pokes fun at Donald Trump after soon-to-be US President's allegation of 'massive cheating' in Philadelphia voting backfires
Andy Murray had a hilarious response to Donald Trump's allegation of "massive cheating" in Philadelphia after the Republican candidate secured the influential swing state of Pennsylvania.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the U.S. Presidential Election took place, with results beginning to trickle in later that night. Trump alleged voter fraud in Philadelphia on Tuesday night in a post on Truth Social.
"A lot of talk about massive CHEATING in Philadelphia," Trump posted, adding, "Law Enforcement coming!!!"
Philadelphia City Commissioner Seth Bluestein, a Republican, rued the allegations. He said (via Business Today):
“There is absolutely no truth to this allegation. It is yet another example of disinformation. Voting in Philadelphia has been safe and secure.”
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner dismissed Trump’s claims, stating that law enforcement had no grounds to support such accusations. Krasner challenged Trump to provide any evidence backing his allegations, emphasizing that the authorities weren't expecting any credible proof to emerge.
Meanwhile, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was broadcasting live on X (formerly Twitter), discussing the election and amplifying Trump’s claims. The live video, in which Jones covered Trump’s accusations, caught the attention of former British tennis star Andy Murray who reshared it.
In a twist, Philadelphia, and the pivotal swing state of Pennsylvania, ultimately swung in Trump’s favor. Murray commented on Trump’s earlier accusations in light of his victory, resharing Jones’ video:
"😂😂 this hasn’t aged well."
Trump pulled off a historic victory over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and other candidates. He told supporters in West Palm Beach (via the BBC):
"This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again.... The task before us will not be easy, but I will bring every ounce of energy, spirit and fight that I have with my soul to the job that you've entrusted to me."
Andy Murray seemingly mocked Donald Trump when he was the US President in 2017
In 2017, during his presidency, Donald Trump posted a message on X claiming that Time magazine had "probably" chosen him as "Man (Person) of the Year" for the second consecutive year. He wrote:
"Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named “Man (Person) of the Year,” like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!"
An hour later, British tennis star Andy Murray posted a similar message on X (formerly Twitter), seemingly mocking Trump’s post. Murray wrote:
"BBC just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!"
With the 2024 election results showing Trump has secured a second term, he is now set to become the 47th President of the USA.
