Andy Murray's mother Judy dismisses reports of retirement from tennis coaching, reveals she is "cutting back" to pursue other interests

Andy Murray's mother, Judy, has clarified that she is not retiring as a tennis coach after reports suggested that she is set to move away from tennis to focus on writing full-time. Judy Murray's debut novel, titled The Wild Card, is available for pre-order with a release date set for early June.

Last year, Murray announced that she had signed a two-book deal with publishing house Orion, with The Wild Card being the first of her releases. Interestingly, the novel revolves around tennis with a female tennis player as the lead character.

A recent report in The Scottish Sun stated that Judy Murray has hung up her boots as a tennis coach to focus solely on writing. Reacting to the same, Murray declared that she has no plans to retire, but admitted to cutting back on her tennis career to pursue new interests.

"Misleading headline. I'm not retiring. Merely cutting back. And trying new things," Judy Murray wrote, responding to a tweet.

Apart from tennis, the former Scottish player has a keen interest in writing. During the announcement of her book launch in June last year, Murray revealed that she would have been a professional writer/editor if she had not taken up tennis professionally.

"If I hadn’t been a tennis coach, I would have become a writer or an editor, so I’m thrilled to be publishing two fiction books with Orion. The first comes out next June + you can even pre-order it in hardback," Murray tweeted.

With a tennis-centric story, Jamie and Andy Murray's mother Judy's book, titled The Wild Card, is set to be released on June 8 this year. The story revolves around Abigail Patterson, a pro player who returns to the sport after a long break and receives a wild card to participate in one of the world's biggest tournaments. However, challenges start presenting themselves before Patterson, as a secret she has hidden for a long time, comes to light.

The Wild Card is a story about how it is never too late to follow one's dreams.

Sharing her thoughts on the story, Murray herself called it a tale of triumph over adversity.

"It’s a tale of triumph over adversity and it’s set within a major event in the tennis calendar," Judy Murray said, per The Bookseller.
