Andy Murray's mother Judy reacts to Brit's long and warm embrace with Stan Wawrinka after French Open 1R battle

Andy Murray's warm embrace at the net with Stan Wawrinka after their first-round duel at the 2024 French Open on Sunday, May 26, has drawn a reaction from the Brit's mother and childhood coach Judy. The 64-year-old notably was in attendance at Roland Garros on Sunday to cheer her son on.

Murray was overwhelmed by Wawrinka's discipline in the first round as he could create no more than two break points and convert none during the match. Wawrinka, on the other hand, put on a clinical display to win 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 on the back of four break points.

Also, the Swiss smashed 35 winners and bagged 92 out of 170 total points played. He maintained a conversion rate of 79 percent on his first serve and 56 percent on the second to show Murray the door. With the win, Wawrinka narrowed Murray's head-to-head lead to 13-10.

After the match point, the old foes held a relatively long conversation on the net while embracing each other. Murray, in particular, could be seen voicing his emotions more as Wawrinka listened patiently. A video clip of their exchange was posted by Roland Garros on their official X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption that read:

"Nothing but RESPECT"

Judy Murray quoted Roland Garros' post and dropped a 'red-heart' emoji in a heart-warming reaction to her son's interaction at the net with Wawrinka.

Stan Wawrinka spoke highly of Andy Murray moments after their first-round fight at the 2024 French Open ended, acknowledging the Brit's diligence and willpower as a tennis player.

"I think Andy did everything he could since he arrived on tour. Super young, he was an amazing fighter. He always found solutions. He's one of the hardest workers on tour," the Swiss said in his post-match press conference.

Wawrinka then highlighted Andy Murray's runner-up finish at Roland Garros in 2016 and rise to the top spot in men's singles world rankings later that year.

"For more than 20 years, he always wanted to improve. He always improved his game. At the French Open, he made semifinal, went to the final, he became No. 1. He achieved everything a player could achieve in tennis," he added.

Andy Murray notably defeated Wawrinka himself in the semifinal of the 2016 French Open before faltering against Novak Djokovic in the final. The two came face-to-face at the Paris Major two more times before Sunday's match in 2017 (semifinal) and 2020 (first round), with the Swiss prevailing on both occasions.
