Andy Roddick perplexed by Donald Trump's January 6 US Capitol riots theory ahead of Presidential elections 2024
Andy Roddick was left perplexed when Republic presidential candidate Donald Trump shared a theory that "the government" was involved in the January 6 US Capitol riots. The former tennis star pointed out that Trump was the President at the time, making him part of "the government" he was referring to.
Arthur Delaney, a reporter at The Huffington Post, shared an image on his X account showing Trump reposting a theory related to the US Capitol riots on the social media platform Truth Social. It stated:
"January 6 will go down in history as the day the government staged a riot"
The January 6 US Capitol riots took place in 2021 when a large group of alleged Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. Their purpose was to try and stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, which declared Joe Biden the winner.
The violent attack resulted in damage to the building, injuries, and several deaths. Notably, the president at the time was still Trump and Biden assumed office on January 20, 2021. Former US Open champion Roddick reshared Delaney's post and pointed this out.
"Like he was the government. Literally the president at the time. Who doesn’t understand this ?" Roddick asked.
Recently, further controversy ensued regarding the January 6 events due to Trump's comments. During a Univision town hall with Latino voters on Wednesday, a member expressed concern over the events of January 6 and asked Trump to win back his vote.
In response, Trump called it “a day of love" and further added:
“They didn’t come because of me... They came because of the election. They thought the election was a rigged election and that’s why they came."
Here's what Vice President Kamala Harris said at a rally in Wisconsin on Thursday in response to Trump’s comments:
"American people are exhausted with his gaslighting... Now, we here know Jan. 6 was a tragic day. It was a day of terrible violence... And what did Donald Trump say last night about Jan. 6? He called it a ‘day of love.’”
Andy Roddick slammed Donald Trump when he claimed presidential debate against Kamala Harris was 'rigged'
On September 10, on the ABC News network, the first presidential debate between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris took place.
Former President Trump, however, was dissatisfied with the way the network handled the debate. In a later interview on Fox News, he criticized the network and said:
“They had a rigged show with somebody that maybe even had the answers…I watched her talk, and I said, you know, she seems awfully familiar with the questions.”
Andy Roddick reacted to a video of Trump's comments on X and criticized him for blame-shifting.
"Everything is rigged. Always someone else’s fault ……. Got the Q’s before is a fun storyline that going around. Who could’ve guessed they were gonna talk about economy, immigration, abortion, Jan 6, Ukraine etc?" Roddick asked.
As we approach the elections, the former American tennis star has been a vocal critic of Trump. Among other tennis personalities, Martina Navratilova and Serena Williams' ex-coach Renna Stubbs have also condemned Trump's actions on multiple occasions. Further, Billie Jean King has endorsed Kamala Harris and is also the co-chair of the "Athletes for Harris" campaign.
