"Anna Kalinskaya deserves better";"As soulless as his robotic tennis" - Fans fuming at Jannik Sinner after Italian's comments on his girlfriend
Jannik Sinner's comments on his girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya have sparked discussions among tennis fans. Many found his statement that he hasn't changed as a person or a player after her entry into his life to be insensitive.
Sinner has enjoyed a breakthrough season amidst a tumultuous year, clinching his first two Majors, reaching the World No. 1 ranking, and much more. The Italian also began dating fellow tennis star Anna Kalinskaya this year, confirming his relationship with her during the French Open.
In an interview with Esquire, the 23-year-old explained how the Russian's entry into his life hasn't changed him, which he found a good thing since it made the relationship feel 'natural'.
"I don't think anything has changed. Having a girlfriend is something that either makes you feel good or makes you feel bad. I want it to be something that feels very natural, which comes into my life normally. I can't afford to change as a player or as a person. That hasn't happened, that's why it works," Sinner said.
A fan on X (formerly Twitter) posted the Italian's comments and stated how they would be distraught if their boyfriend spoke about them in the same manner.
"if my bf spoke about me like this i would just kms," the fan wrote.
A fan felt that Anna Kalinskaya deserved better treatment.
"anna deserves better," the fan wrote.
Another fan joked how the World No. 1 was as soulless as his tennis.
"He's as soulless as his robotic tennis," the fan wrote.
Here are some more reactions from fans.
"'does nothing affect you?'ðŸ˜," a fan wrote.
"That was his chance to shower her in compliments/appreciation and he wasted it. Some men are so clueless for these things," another fan opined.
"im laughing thats up there with him being like "my gf lost a final today and she had match points!!!" like he's set in embarrassing her," a fan quipped.
"I'd be like I'm throwing your stuff from the window, don't come back, we're done," another furious fan wrote.

During the China Open, Jannik Sinner sat for an interview with CCTV5, where he described his kiss with Anna Kalinskaya after winning the US Open as a 'nice moment'. The two had a plethora of beautiful moments together during the New York Major.

The Italian then said that while the two players had different playstyles and couldn't compare notes, they still supported each other with some 'positive energy'.
"As tennis players we are, you know, different. I am different also to other tennis players. But for sure I always try to support her because she also tries to support me, giving some positive energy," the two-time Grand Slam champion said.
Jannik Sinner is about to kick off his campaign at the 2024 ATP Finals where he is the top seed. He will take on seventh seed Alex de Minaur in his opening match.
