"Arms are sensational!"- Nick Kyrgios gushes over Carlos Alcaraz's "singlet" as Spaniard makes "fear" claim about wearing sleeveless outfit at US Open
Nick Kyrgios was all for Carlos Alcaraz’s “singlet” at the 2024 US Open. In response, the Spaniard revealed that one of the reasons for his sleeveless outfit choice was creating “fear” in his opponents’ minds.
Alcaraz made his 2024 US Open debut on Tuesday, August 27, at Arthur Ashe Stadium against qualifier Li Tu. The Aussie opponent entertained the crowd, giving the third seed a run for his money. Alcaraz required four sets to close out the match after an inspired comeback by Tu in the second set (6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1).
Besides the exceptional tennis on display, what caught the crowd’s eyes was Carlos Alcaraz’s black “Nike Men's Fall Slam Sleeveless Top” with a fuchsia-colored Swoosh, which he paired with matching black shorts. During his on-court interview after the win, the 21-year-old received praise from his colleague and interviewer, Nick Kyrgios, for his fashion choice.
"This is a question for lot of the people in the crowd and myself. I love when you wear singlets out on court here. And I want to know did you design this yourself? Because your arms are looking sensational!" he hilariously conveyed.
Carlos Alcaraz nodded in agreement.
"I love playing with singlets as well," he said, laughing.
The Spaniard, who wore sleeveless fits at the 2023 US Open and the 2024 Australian Open, said he enjoys donning the look at some tournaments in hopes of intimidating his opponent.
"In some tournaments – specific tournaments, I want to play with singlet probably just to make fear to the opponents, or I try," Carlos Alcaraz said smiling.
He further explained that his choices are also influenced by the weather.
"But here in New York it’s so hot; so humid, you try not to sweat a lot," the 2022 champion said. "I’m glad you like it. Yeah, I obviously like playing with that."

While the Spaniard opted for the black fit for the night session, he is likely to sport a similar silhouette in a "light wild mango" color with aster pink highlights during his US Open day-session matches.
Carlos Alcaraz to face Botic van de Zandschulp in US Open 2024 second round
While Carlos Alcaraz entered the 2024 US Open with an uncharacteristic opening-match loss to Gael Monfils in Cincinnati, he seemed to rediscover his rhythm in his opening match against Li Tu.
The Spaniard, who won the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships earlier this year, is chasing his fifth Grand Slam and second US Open title at the event. He failed to defend his title from 2022 last year, losing to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals.
"Absolutely no doubts that I enjoy every single time that I play here in New York. I think it’s one of the most electric courts; electric crowd that I’ve played in front of. So for me, it’s an honor to step on the court once again, try to (play) good tennis" he said in the aforementioned on-court interview after beating Li Tu.
Carlos Alcaraz faces Botic van de Zandschulp for a spot in the third round on Thursday, August 29. He enjoys a 2-0 head-to-head lead over the Dutch opponent.
