After defeating Jessica Pegula in the final of the 2024 US Open, Aryna Sabalenka expressed that winning the New York Major was "very special" to her because she had to overcome several obstacles on and off the court.

"This one is very special because of so many things I had to overcome in the past and especially this season and still be able to compete on my highest level and to get this beautiful trophy," Aryna Sabalenka said [via WTATennis.com].

Sabalenka stated that she was still "hungry" to achieve more and that she had set her sights on reclaiming the World No.1 ranking. She mentioned that she will take a brief break to "switch off" from tennis and then come back and refocus on her goals and push herself even further.

"I'm still hungry, for sure. Another goal for sure is to try to become World No.1 again. But I don't want to talk about this goal. I'm just trying to keep improving myself and keep getting better every day . But now I'll definitely have some days off so I can just enjoy this win and I can switch off and forget about tennis for a little bit. So I'll keep this freshness till the end of the season," she added.

Looking ahead, Aryna Sabalenka will next compete at the 2024 China Open in Beijing which is scheduled to kick off on September 25 and run through October 6, 2024. Last year, at the WTA 1000 hard court tournament the Belarusian made it to the quarterfinals before bowing out to Elena Rybakina.
