Aryna Sabalenka post-match interview today: Everything World No. 1 said after beating Iga Swiatek in French Open SF

Aryna Sabalenka pulled off a stunning performance on Thursday, June 5, to secure her place in the 2025 French Open final. She defeated three-time defending champion and title favorite Iga Swiatek in a hard-fought battle, proving it was anything but an easy win.

Sabalenka and Swiatek delivered high-quality tennis during the match, with the former edging out the first set in a tiebreak. The latter responded by taking the second set, but the deciding set saw the Belarusian completely dominate. With a commanding 6-0 finish, Sabalenka ended Swiatek’s 26-match winning streak at the clay-court Major, sealing the victory 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-0.

Later, Aryna Sabalenka gave an on-court interview with Mats Wilander, where she opened up about the emotional ups and downs of the match. Talking about Iga Swiatek, she said:

"She is the toughest opponent on clay, especially at Roland Garros. I am proud that I was able to get this win, and it was a tough match. It was a tricky match, but I managed it somehow, and I am super proud right now."
"I am just thrilled with the performance today with this win and with the atmosphere in the stadium. Thank you so much for the atmosphere you are bringing on court because it makes us feel amazing," she added.

The World No. 1 then shifted focus to the second semifinal between Coco Gauff and Lois Boisson, noting that she would be closely watching to see who she'll face in the final.

"I will let my team watch it today and tomorrow," Sabalenka said. "We are gonna watch it together, depends on who is gonna win the match, but yeah, another great semifinal, enjoy guys. I am pretty sure you are going to be cheering for one person like crazy, and I am not sure if I really want her to win."

Aryna Sabalenka has been enjoying a strong season. Although she fell short of defending her Australian Open title earlier this year with a loss to Madison Keys, she’s made sure not to repeat those mistakes at Roland Garros. Her run to the final included wins over Kamilla Rakhimova, Jil Teichmann, Olga Danilovic, Amanda Anisimova, and Zheng Qinwen before her big semifinal clash with Iga Swiatek.

After ending Iga Swiatek’s title defense with a hard-fought semifinal win at the 2025 French Open, Aryna Sabalenka spoke at a press conference and reflected on the match. She said she felt both of them performed at a high level, regardless of the final result.

“I have to say both of us improved a lot," Sabalenka said. "I think today was a really high level match. I think she played really well. Both of us were struggling a bit on the serve in the first half of the match."

She added:

"I think she’s playing great tennis. Maybe she lost a bit of confidence, so that’s why sometimes you see her missing balls she shouldn’t be missing. But overall I think today was a really high level match and today she played really great tennis."

Swiatek also addressed the media after her loss. She acknowledged that Sabalenka played well and took some time to reflect on her own performance, pointing out the areas where she could’ve done better.
