ATP Rankings update: Jannik Sinner widens gap at top heading into US Open, Frances Tiafoe makes big gains after Cincinnati Open runner-up finish
Jannik Sinner extended his lead at the top of the ATP rankings heading into the US Open with his title-winning run in Cincinnati. Despite falling short in his Canadian Open defense last week, the Italian's victory over Frances Tiafoe earlier today has seen him widen the gap at the top to over 2000 points.
Novak Djokovic, meanwhile, stays at No. 2, even though he did not compete in Cincinnati as the defending champion. Carlos Alcaraz also remains the World No. 3 despite a second-round defeat to Gael Monfis at the Masters 1000 event. The rest of the top 10 remain unchanged. However, Stefanos Tsitsipas is just inches away, being just ten points behind tenth-ranked Alex de Minaur.
Elsewhere, Frances Tiafoe's impressive run in Cincinnati saw him jump seven spots and make a return into the top 20, overtaking the likes of Sebastian Baez, Alejandro Tabilo, and Karen Khachanov. His semifinal runs at the Citi Open and a runner-up finish in Cincinnati has seen him seal the 20th spot in the ATP rankings.
Ben Shelton and compatriot Tommy Paul exchanged spots 13 and 14, with the former building a 305-point lead. Holger Rune's semifinal run in Cincinnati saw him overtake Sebastian Korda and return to the Top 15 of the ATP rankings
Jack Draper jumped three spots following his quarterfinal finish last week. Canadian Open champion Alexei Popyrin, however fell down five spots to 28th after an opening-round exit in Cincinnati.
Luciano Darderi dropped four spots to 38th rank and Adrian Mannarino dropped nine spots to go all the way down to 42. Matteo Berrettini also dropped two spots to 44 while Zhizhen Zhang rose to the 41st spot from 44th.
Gael Monfils and Marcos Giron traded spots at 45 and 46, while Brandon Nakashima and Fabian Marozsan's one-spot rise each sees Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard drop to the 50th spot.
Max Purcell drop 23 spots, Laslo Djere returns to top 100 of the ATP rankings
Max Purcell saw one of the biggest drops in the new ATP rankings update, slipping 23 spots to 91st after failing to defend his quarterfinal points from 2023 in Cincinnati. Emil Ruusivuori, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Borna Coric were also the recipients of a downgrade, going down to 83, 84, and 87, respectively.
Serbia's Laslo Djere gained six spots to No. 100 in the rankings while Aleksandar Vukic also jumped three spots to 94. David Goffin and Taro Daniel also moved up two spots each.
Damir Dzhumur jumped 19 spots in 81 on the back of a title-winning run at the Santo Domingo Challenger last week. American teenager Alex Michelsen recorded a career-high ranking of 52 after his second-round finish in Cincinati. Roman Safiullin's title-winning run at the Cary Challenger saw him climb seven spots up to 59th.
Dusan Lajovic dropped 12 spots to No. 66 and Arthur Cazaux dropped four spots to 97 to round off the notable movers in the top 100 of the latest ATP rankings.
