ATP Rankings update after US Open: Champion Jannik Sinner extends his lead as Alexander Zverev rises to No. 2; Taylor Fritz makes top-10 return

The new set of ATP rankings have been released following the conclusion of US Open 2024. Jannik Sinner won the men's singles title by beating Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the final.

After action in New York is over, the ATP rankings have seen some significant shifts. However, Sinner maintaining his top spot has been a constant. The Italian earned 1820 points by winning the trophy and extended his lead at the top spot with a current tally of 11,180.

Finalist Taylor Fritz and semi-finalist Jack Draper saw themselves attain major ranking shifts. Fritz reached his maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open and this saw him make a return to the Top 10 of the ATP rankings. He is currently the World No. 7.

Young British player Jack Draper made a major career breakthrough when he reached the last four stages of a Major at the US Open. The Brit earned 620 points for his effort which saw him jump up the rankings by five places, and reach a career-high ranking of 20.

Elsewhere in the ATP rankings, Alexander Zverev jumped two spots up to World No. 2 while Novak Djokovic's third-round exit and subsequent inability to defend his winning points from last year's US Open, saw him drop to No. 4.

Fritz's rise to the top 10 meant that Alex de Minaur was knocked out of the top 10. The Australian earned 220 points in New York by reaching the quarterfinals, taking his points tally to 3435, but the American's jump up meant everyone under him had to drop down a position on the rankings.

Taylor Fritz was not the sole American who rose in the recent ATP rankings, with Frances Tiafoe's semifinal run at the US Open seeing him rise to 16th from 20th.

Another American player who improved his ranking was Brandon Nakashima, who reached the fourth round of the New York Major. The 23-year-old's performances saw him reach a career-best ranking of 40th.

Ben Shelton was unable to defend his semifinal points from US Open 2023 and he dropped four spots down to 17th in the rankings. The 21-year-old suffered a third-round defeat to Frances Tiafoe in New York.

Among other players, Alexei Popyrin, who ousted Novak Djokovic, jumped to a career-high 24th while the likes of Felix Auger-Aliassime, Sebastian Baez and Nicolas Jarry, all suffered drops.
