Australian Open 2025: How much did Rohan Bopanna earn after a quarter-final exit from mixed doubles?
Rohan Bopanna and his partner Shuai Zhang won prize money of $142,000 after making an exit from the quarterfinals of mixed doubles at the Australian Open 2025. On Tuesday, January 21, Bopanna and Zhang lost to the wildcard Australian pair of Olivia Gadecki and John Peers. Gadecki and Peers took an hour and eight minutes to win the match 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 at Kia Arena.
If they had made it to the semi-final, they would have earned a prize of $250,000. The winner and runner-up of the mixed doubles would earn $810,000 and $440,000, respectively. The ones knocked out in the first, second, and third rounds would earn $40,000, $58,000, and $82,000, respectively.
How did Rohan Bopanna perform in the Australian Open?
In 2022, Bopanna played the mixed doubles final with Sania Mirza and finished as the runner-up. Last year, he became the oldest Grand Slam champion after winning the men’s doubles title with Matthew Ebden, who parted ways with the Indian after the ATP Finals 2024.
This time around, the Indian did not have the best of outings. Bopanna and his new men’s doubles partner Nicolas Barrientos could not go beyond the first round. The duo lost in straight sets to the Spanish pair of Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar.
In mixed doubles, Bopanna and Zhang began with a win over Ivan Dodig and Kristina Mladenovic. The pair got a walkover in their second-round match after the duo of Hugo Nys and Taylor Townsend withdrew.
Against Gadecki and Peers, Bopanna and Zhang looked good after winning the first set. But they lost the second set, forcing the match into the decider. In the third set tie-breaker, they once had a 9-8 lead before conceding three points on the trot to lose the match.
