"Be careful" - Carlos Alcaraz hilariously warns coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after maiden Laver Cup win under Bjorn Borg
Carlos Alcaraz fired a hilarious warning at his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after winning his maiden match at the 2024 Laver Cup against Ben Shelton. The Spaniard, who is enjoying his time under tennis legend Bjorn Borg, jokingly hinted at a coaching change.
Alcaraz kicked off his Laver Cup campaign alongside Alexander Zverev with a loss in doubles against the American duo of Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton on the opening day. However, he got his revenge in singles when he defeated Shelton 6-4, 6-4 to level the Laver Cup 4-4.
During the on-court interview, while speaking about his experience of the event, the Spaniard jokingly issued a warning to his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, hinting he lose his position to Borg.
"Juan Carlos, be careful," Carlos Alcaraz joked.
Continuing his thoughts on his experience, Alcaraz said that he feels more pressure while competing for a team since he wants to win for them as well. However, he said that he is loving the support from his teammates during the big moments.
"In the other tournaments, I feel like, that's always that I'm playing for myself. And when you are playing as a team, you're playing for them as well. So you feel like, a little bit more the pressure because you feel like, you have to win for them," he said.
"I feel like a little bit more the pressure as I said, but at the same time, I feel more energy having them supporting me behind in the top moments during the match."
The 21-year-old is enjoying the support as it helps him relax during the matches.
"I see them… supporting and saying come on all the time, and for me, relax me a little bit in the match. So, it's kind of all good feelings," Carlos Alcaraz added.
This Laver Cup will mark the final clash between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe as captains. They are set to be replaced by Yannick Noah and Andre Agassi respectively starting next year.
