Ben Shelton hilariously snubs Emma Navarro as emergency contact: "She never responds"
Ben Shelton was asked who his emergency contact would be, and he humorously replied by saying who it wouldn’t be—Emma Navarro. He playfully snubbed his compatriot, complaining that she never responds.
Several tennis stars participated in Tennis Channel's segment where they were asked who their emergency contacts would be. Many players had different choices with Jannik Sinner opting for Jack Draper, Daniil Medvedev choosing Andrey Rublev, and Coco Gauff picking Chris Eubanks.
Shelton, however, chose a different response. He first jokingly mentioned who he would not have as his emergency contact.
“I definitely wouldn’t have my emergency contact be Emma Navarro. She never responds," Shelton said.
He did, however, pick Sebastian Korda as his emergency contact. Some of the popular choices for multiple players were Novak Djokovic, Tommy Paul, Reilly Opelka, and Jessica Pegula.
All of these players including Shelton and Navarro have participated at the ongoing 2024 US Open.

Ben Shelton has impressed at the 2024 US Open as he has not lost a set in his first two matches. He faced Dominic Thiem in the first round which turned out to be the Austrian's final appearance at a Grand Slam. The 30-year-old is set to retire after his home event in Vienna and he faced an early exit at the hands of the American with a score of 4-6, 2-6, 2-6.
In the second round, Shelton took on Spain's Roberto Batista Agut and defeated 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. His win set up an all-American clash in the third round against Frances Tiafoe. Shelton was ready to go to war stating:
"I know that the people love him here probably more than me. He is electric here and his crowds are electric here... We are good friends, it will be a battle, it will be a war just like the last two times we played. I am more than excited to be out there with him again, " Shelton said at his press conference.
Meanwhile, Emma Navarro is enjoying an impressive campaign at the US Open with two straight sets wins. She got the better of Anna Blinkova in the first round 6-1, 6-1, before taking out Arantxa Rus 6-1, 6-1, in the second round.
In the third round, 13th seed Navarro faces 19th seed Marta Kostyuk. Both Navarro and Shelton's third-round matches are scheduled for Friday, August 30.
