World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will lock horns with Ben Shelton in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon on Sunday (July 7). The top seed needed four sets to get past his first two opponents, Yannick Hanfmann and Matteo Berrettini.
Sinner had an easy day at the office in the third round as he beat Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. He improved his record for the season to an impressive 41-3 with the win and reached the fourth round at the All England Club for the third straight year.
Shelton had a 1-2 record on grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon. However, that didn't end up being an indication of how he would perform here. The American has been tested at every step of the way so far but has managed to emerge unscathed.
All three of Shelton's victories at Wimbledon have come in five sets as he fought past Lloyd Harris, Mattia Bellucci, and Denis Shapovalov to make it this far. He has reached the fourth round here for the first time.
Sinner leads Shelton 2-1 in the head-to-head. The former lost their first match at last year's Shanghai Masters and has since won their next two encounters in Vienna, and at Indian Wells this year.
