The Russian was captured with a tense look at the Arthur Ashe stadium and a video of the same was shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Several fans made memes on Sharapova's reaction, with one of them taking a dig at Navarro.

"Maria thinking about how mid Navarro is," the fan wrote.

Another meme stated that Sharapova was reacting to the current playing field in the US Open semifinals.

"When I played, such mid girls weren't reaching Slam semis, this is a joke," the meme read.

Maria Sharapova played exactly 50 matches at the US Open throughout her career, winning 38 of them. The Russian's only title at the New York Major came in 2006, when she was seeded third.

Sharapova dropped just one set en route to the final, beating Michaella Krajicek, Emilie Loit, Elena Likhovtseva, Li Na, Tatiana Golovin and then-World No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo. She beat Justine Henin 6-4, 6-4 in the summit clash to win her second Grand Slam title. The Russian's next best performances in Flushing Meadows were semifinal runs in 2005 and 2012.

Sharapova's last appearance at the US Open came in 2019, when she suffered a 1-6, 1-6 defeat to Serena Williams in the first round.

"I look like I just missed a second serve return on break point and saw my coach’s reaction," the Russian wrote on X.

The former World No. 1 was also present at the 2023 edition of the US Open. It has been over four years since Maria Sharapova retired from tennis, with her last match coming in the first round of the 2020 Australian Open, where she lost to Donna Vekic.

The Russian has since gotten engaged to Alexander Gilkes, and the couple's son Theodore was born in July 2022.
