"Beyond ridiculous" - Serena Williams' ex-coach reacts to Florida results in US election; Coco Gauff's ex-coach chimes in with Andy Roddick mention
Serena Williams' ex-coach Rennae Stubbs and Coco Gauff's former coach Brad Gilbert have reacted to the emerging US election results. As things stand at the time of writing, Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump is seemingly in pole position for the win.
Rennae Stubbs, who coached Williams for the 2022 US Open, has endorsed Democrats' Kamala Harris' bid for presidency and denounced Donald Trump. Brad Gilbert, formerly Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Andy Murray and Coco Gauff's coach, has not been too vocal about his political allegiance.
Despite support from high-profile names both within tennis and beyond the sport, Harris' chances seem to be diminishing. Meanwhile, Trump, backed by the world's richest man, Elon Musk, has already triumphed in 24 states at the time of writing.
Serena Williams' ex-coach Stubbs rued the Grand Old Party (GOP) winning Florida. The Australian former doubles No. 1 took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
"Minority rules now in Florida!!! What a joke."
Stubbs added later:
"The fact that Hispanics are voting for a man that would rather throw them out of the country is unbelievable…."
Meanwhile, Coco Gauff's former coach Brad Gilbert wondered how states' results are given based on early voting figures. Gilbert himself did not specify the names of the state(s) he was referring to. The 63-year-old also tagged Andy Roddick in his post.
"Sorry, how can u give either candidates the state with 3-4 % on early voting, beyond ridiculous @andyroddick," Gilbert wrote on X.
Gilbert later suggested that placing two-year term limits on members of Congress and the Senate could be helpful in reducing the number of "career politicians".
"Not sure, why we don’t have term limits on congress and senate at 2 , so long overdue in getting rid of career politicians, 83 year man just got reelected to another term in senate that takes him till 89, this needs to stop," Gilbert wrote.
Stubbs was recently shocked at kids who had dressed up as Trump for Halloween.
Serena Williams' ex-coach Rennae Stubbs did not take kindly to kids dressing up as Donald Trump to celebrate Halloween
A picture featuring several school kids dressed up as Donald Trump and his entourage, wearing 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA) caps, recently went viral on X. One of the kids in the pictured posed with what looked like a toy sniper rifle. Serena Williams' former coach Rennae Stubbs noticed it, and was aghast, unable to believe that children are indulging in such acts.
"Can u imagine!!! This is being taught to them by the adults that are raising them. Disgraceful," Stubbs wrote.
Stubbs, along with Andy Roddick and Martina Navratilova, is among the fiercest critics of Donald Trump and the Republicans in the world of tennis. All three have backed Kamala Harris' campaign and frequently criticized Trump in the buildup to the 2024 elections.
For instance, Navratilova was recently critical of Trump after he claimed at a Georgia rally that he would be giving ex-NFL player Herschel Walker charge of a nationwide missile defense shield project.
