Bianca Andreescu defends Netflix's 'Break Point' docuseries against critics calling it "slow and boring"
Bianca Andreescu was all praise for Netflix docuseries Break Point, defending the show against its detractors.
Netflix's Break Point documentary series provides a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of several professional tennis players. The first part of the series was released just prior to the Australian Open, and focused on the tournaments held during the first half of the year. It followed players like Nick Kyrgios, Taylor Fritz, Paula Badosa, Felix Auger-Aliassime among others as they competed in tournaments around the world. The second part of the series will feature players like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Iga Swiatek and others and will be released in June 2023.
Bianca Andreescu recently shared her views on the series on the Match Point Canada podcast. She said that she didn't understand why the show was being criticized harshly.
"I didn't really understand the backlash that it got," the Canadian said.
The former World No. 4 said that she didn't agree with the criticism that the show was not engaging for hardcore tennis fans and players on tour. Andreescu felt it was the total opposite of "slow and boring" as it provideda great look into what life is like for the players when they are on tour.
"I think it gives great insight on what's going on on tour," she said.
The 2019 US Open champion said that the interviews given by team members traveling with the players were very compelling for her. She loved being able to see the highs and lows faced by the players. Andreescu said that she could empathize with the players as she had been in their situation before.
Andreescu said, "You could see the hardships, you can see the joys. And watching it made me very emotional as well, because I mean, I've been in some of those people's shoes," she said.
Bianca Andreescu has previously shared her love for the show on social media
Bianca Andreescu had previously taken to Twitter on January 16 to share how much she enjoyed the show, especially the inside look it gives into life on tour as a professional tennis player.
"Just finished Break Point on Netflix!! I really enjoyed it. Gives good insight on life on tour; difficulties, joys, team aspect, and lots of candid moments too!," Andreescu shared.
She also expressed shock at the revelation that Rafael Nadal has had to play five sets in a match only three times at Roland Garros in his entire career.
"Like what?!," she wrote about the incredible achievement.
Bianca Andreescu recently competed at the Abu Dhabi Open where she lost her opening match to Yulia Putintseva. It was later revealed that an agreement was made prior to the match that the winner of the encounter would have to treat the loser to dinner.
