Bianca Andreescu seeks Nick Kyrgios' expertise after failed tweener attempts, Australian obliges with advice

After failing to execute a successful tweener, Bianca Andreescu sought out trick-shot artist Nick Kyrgios for advice.

Andreescu commenced her claycourt season at the Madrid Open, after being sidelined for a while because of an ankle injury. The Canadian, however, is yet to win a match on clay this year; she suffered first-round defeats to Wang Xiyu in Madrid and Marketa Vondrosouva at the recently concluded Italian Open.

While gearing up for the upcoming French Open, Andreescu took to social media to share a video montage of herself attempting and failing to hit a tweener. She then asked Kyrgios for help.

"Send help @NickKyrgios," she tweeted.

Kyrgios, who is currently not in action on the tour due to an injury, paid heed to the 22-year-old year's request and offered some advice.

"You have to let the ball drop a little more," he replied.

Bianca Andreescu took a mental-health break from tennis last year. In a three-part series titled "The Real Me: Bianca Andreescu," which is being launched by the WTA in collaboration with Modern Health, Andreescu sheds light on her feelings at the time.

In the first part, Andreescu discusses how tennis had taken over her life and how her self-worth had become tied to her performance on the court.

"Like looking back now I know that I didn’t have enough love for myself outside of being just a tennis player. I felt like I was basing so much of my self-worth on results," she said.
"At the time, I had no idea because I never really felt that way. Ever in my life. So it was just I was confused, I was shocked, overwhelmed and I had no idea what to do," she added.

The 22-year-old also stated that the pressure became so intense that she has even considered giving up the sport altogether.

"Literally as harsh as it sounds I wanted to quit the sport. I had no love for the game whatsoever. So then at that point is when I took my break. My mental break," she disclosed.

On May 5, Andreescu was appointed as the Mental Timeout ambassador by Tennis Canada. The role involves promoting mental health and wellness while also raising awareness about the significance of prioritizing mental health as an athlete.
