"Blessed to still have a roof over my head" - Danielle Collins grateful for her safety with dog Quincy after Hurricane Milton wreaks havoc in Florida
The American tennis player, Danielle Collins, recently shared an update, confirming her and her dog's safety after Hurricane Milton struck Florida. She also extended her support and wishes for the people deeply affected by the disaster.
Hurricane Milton, a catastrophic category 4 storm, devastated Florida recently, resulting in 14 deaths. The city has faced immense loss after experiencing two hurricanes in 13 days. Just a few weeks ahead of this hurricane, it also suffered from Hurricane Helene, which created chaos and destruction on the state.
Following the passing of the hurricane, Collins, the World No.7, took to her Instagram stories and shared an image of her dog Quincy with some of his drenched toys, along with a lengthy note in which she shared gratitude for their safety amidst the calamity. Along with this, she also shared her wishes for those who struggled during the storm. Collins wrote,
"Thanks to all who have been reaching out and checking in. It's been a nightmare for so many Floridians. I consider myself very lucky that I have very little damage relative to so much of my family and friends. It puts everything into perspective. Blessed to still have a roof over my head and even though Mr.Q's toys got drenched, he is happy these monster hurricanes are behind us.
"Praying for everyone who has faced devastation during this incredibly difficult time. And praying everyone stays safe during the rest of hurricane season."
When Danielle Collins opened up about on what she looks forward to post retirement
After the Australian Open in January, Danielle Collins revealed that she would be retiring at the end of the year.
At the US Open 2024 a few weeks ago she suffered an unfortunate early end to her campaign in the first round against Caroline Dolehide 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. In a post-match interview, she said that she was ready for retirement and exuded excitement about starting a family. Collins said,
"Obviously I've talked a lot about wanting to have children and starting a family, and being excited about that, and just kind of stepping away from being in the spotlight."
"You know, I like, you know, the idea of not traveling 40 weeks out of the year. I think that kind of sounds good at this point in my career with all the travel that I've done, even though I have enjoyed it a lot."
She further spoke about the traveling involved in the sport and said she was happy that she took the decision of retirement.
"Yeah, I think a lot of us, we dedicate our whole lives to it, to the sport, to the travel, you give up a lot of life experiences, other life experiences for your career. You know, it was a sacrifice I think that paid off, and I'm happy that I did it. But yeah, looking forward to other things that I'll get to be able to participate in, you know, that I haven't."
Following the US Open, Danielle Collins competed in the Abierto de Guadalajara, where she faced the same fate as in New York, being bested by Olivia Gadeki in the first round 6-3, 6-3.
