Carlos Alcaraz, who failed to get past Felix-Auger Aliassime on three occasions in the past, produced some of his best tennis at Indian Wells. Now, he has given himself a chance of regaining the World No. 1 spot.
The 19-year-old who became the youngest World No. 1 after his US Open triumph last year ended the 2022 season as the world's top-ranked player. Alcaraz had to retire midway through his 2021 US Open quarterfinal against Auger-Aliassime and lost to the 22-year-old in the Davis Cup finals last year.
The Montreal-born player prevailed against his teenage rival yet again in the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors at Basel. He subsequently went on to win that event, but thanks to Alcaraz's remarkable tenacity, the script was altered at Indian Wells.
