Jessica Pegula vs Peyton Stearns preview
Defending champion Jessica Pegula will look to continue her title defense as she takes on Peyton Stearns in the quarter-final. The American has produced some impressive performances so far in 2024, winning the ecotrans Ladies Open in Berlin. However, her last two tournament outings have been disappointing as she lost in the second round of Wimbledon and the Olympics.
After getting a bye in the first round due to her high seeding, the World No. 6 went past Karolina Pliskova in the second round. Pegula then registered another comfortable 6-2, 6-4 victory over compatriot Ashlyn Krueger to book her place in the quarterfinals in Toronto.
Peyton Stearns has not had a great showing in 2024. The young American did win a title at the Morocco Open, but barring that it has mostly been first-round exits. Even in her previous event at the Citi Open, she exited in the third round losing to Emma Raducanu.
However, at the Canadian Open Navarro has put together a string of good performances. She secured a straight-sets victory over Anna Blinkova in the first round. She then defeated seventh-seeded Madison Keys in the second round, where the latter retired during the third set. Navarro secured another victory via retirement against Victoria Azarenka in the third round.
Jessica Pegula vs Peyton Stearns head-to-head
Pegula won the only match against Stearns at last year's Citi Open.

Jessica Pegula vs Peyton Stearns prediction
In her match against Krueger, Pegula made only 48 percent of her first serves, winning a below-par 57 percent of her first serve points. The third seed got broken four times in the course of the match. On the other hand, she was able to win 70 percent of the points on the opponent's second serve, breaking back seven times in the process.
Two of the three victories that Stearns has secured at this event have been in the form of walkovers. There is no certainty she would have won the match against higher-ranked players if they were in full flow and completed their respective matches.
Being the defending champion, and one of the favorites to win the event, Pegula is the outright favorite to win this match and advance to the semi-final.
