Carlos Alcaraz is a joy to watch: Laura Robson

Former British No. 1 Laura Robson recently praised former World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, saying that watching him play is a "joy."

Alcaraz made a name for himself at the age of 19, winning his first Major at the 2022 US Open. He also became the World No. 1 player by defeating the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal over the course of the year. The Spaniard also won the third Masters 1000 title of his career at Indian Wells in March 2023.

He was then seen in action at the Miami Open, where he was attempting to become the youngest man to win the Sunshine Double. However, arch-rival Jannik Sinner cut his run short in the semifinals.

Laura Robson described Carlos Alcaraz's performance at the Miami Open as "insane" in an interview with Eurosport. She added that the Spaniard's opponents should be scared of him given how quickly he is improving as a player.

"Honestly, Alcaraz's level in that whole tournament [Miami] was insane. I kind of struggle to imagine him improving even more," Robson said.
"But he's just got so much more ability that you feel like he could get to, which is almost the scary part for all of his opponents as he continues to develop as a player because you forget how young he is and how little time he's really spent on the tour, and yet he's just outrageous," she added.

The Brit then stated that watching Alcaraz play is a "joy" as he "loves the competition" and "soaks up the atmosphere" whenever he is on the court.

"I just love how much he enjoys the challenge of competing, and every match that he plays, whether he's playing really good or having a bit of a tougher day, it just looks like he loves the competition and playing in front of a crowd, soaking up the atmosphere. He's just a joy to watch."

Carlos Alcaraz recently lost his World No.1 ranking to veteran Novak Djokovic. The change took place after Alcaraz, who had displaced the Serbian to reclaim the No. 1 spot with his victory at Indian Wells, failed to defend his Miami Open title.

The Spanish teen sensation was on his way to becoming the youngest man to win the Sunshine Double, and he needed a title win in Miami to keep his top spot. However, Alcaraz's loss to arch-rival Jannik Sinner in the Miami Open semi-finals paved the way for the Serb to reclaim the No. 1 ranking.
