"Carlos Alcaraz pulled a Tom Brady" - Fans try to explain Spaniard's epic comeback win over Jannik Sinner in French Open final in NFL terms

Carlos Alcaraz mounted an incredible comeback to defeat Jannik Sinner in the 2025 French Open final and clinch his fifth Grand Slam title. The Spaniard's feat has prompted fans to attempt to explain the magnitude of his victory in NFL terms.

Although the blockbuster final was very closely contested, Sinner initially proved to be better in the crucial moments and took a 2-0 lead. Alcaraz then raised his level to clinch the third set and stay alive in the match. The Italian appeared to have sealed the win in the fourth set, but Alcaraz fended off all three championship points and secured an important break to force a decider.

Carlos Alcaraz then completed his incredible comeback by claiming a 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(10-2) victory after a tense five-hour and 29-minute battle. The thrilling encounter marked the longest French Open final in history.

Following the match, a fan attempted to put Alcaraz's remarkable comeback into perspective for NFL fans. They compared the World No. 2's resurgence to Tom Brady's New England Patriots battling back from a 3-28 deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in the 2017 Super Bowl.

"Alcaraz really came back & won, how do i explain this in football terms, Falcons being up 28-3 on the Patriots or is that to extreme?" one fan posted.
"CARLOS ALCARAZ PULLED A TOM BRADY. REMARKABLE," another user wrote.

However, other fans argued that Alcaraz's comeback was even bigger than Brady's, especially since the Spaniard had to beat the World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.

"Impossible to explain its way bigger comeback than 28-3 ... it actually might be the biggest comeback in sports history (big games only)," one fan posted.
"It is the equivalent of being up 28-3 in the Super Bowl, blowing the lead, but then in sudden death overtime, having the ball inside the 5 to win the game multiple times, somehow coming away with zero points, then the other team goes 95 yards and wills their team to victory," a fan argued.
"This is also nowhere remotely close in comparison. Way bigger comeback than this," another fan wrote.
"Against the world number 1… hard to hyperbolize that comeback," said yet another.

Carlos Alcaraz's victory also greatly impressed tennis legends like Rafael Nadal, Chris Evert and Roger Federer, as he was showered with supportive messages after clinching the trophy.

In his post-match interview, Carlos Alcaraz asserted that his win over Jannik Sinner in the French Open ranked as the best Grand Slam match of his career. The Spaniard also said the final was the perfect occasion to record his first victory after coming back from two sets down.

"I’m gonna put it first. This match is the first match I came back from 2 sets to 0 down. There wasn’t a better occasion than the Roland Garros final against the world No. 1, Jannik. It was the perfect place to come back from 2 sets to 0 down. I think it’s the best Grand Slam match I’ve played in my career. Really proud and happy this happened," Carlos Alcaraz said.

With his win, the Spaniard extended his impressive winning record against Sinner to 8-4, having won all five of their most recent encounters.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will both enjoy a short break before turning their attention to the grass season. The Italian will compete at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle next, while Alcaraz will be in action at the Queen's Club Championships ahead of Wimbledon.
