"Having kids is a big difference" – Caroline Wozniacki opens up about balancing motherhood with her tennis career
Caroline Wozniacki married former NBA star David Lee in 2019 and retired from professional tennis after the 2020 Australian Open. The couple welcomed their daughter, Olivia, in 2021, followed by a son, James, in 2022. In 2023, Wozniacki decided to come back to the tour.
After a year on the tour, the Dane opened up about her experience as a tennis player after embracing motherhood.
"Obviously marriage is a big deal and super happily married, but when you're married, it doesn't really change your preparation of how you prepare for practice or matches or days off, but having kids is a big difference," Wozniacki said.
"My kids are there every single day, and I really appreciate it. It's the best job in the world, and I love it."
Wozniacki aims to be fully present as a mother while also striving to be the best tennis player she can be. She acknowledges that balancing these roles can be challenging, as her family is her top priority, but her love for winning is also strong.
"I think that sometimes that mom guilt comes out, but I try and manage it as well as I can," she added.
In 2024, Wozniacki played 29 singles matches, finishing the season with a 16-13 record. She ended the year ranked World No. 72, with her final match taking place in the fourth round of the US Open.
