Caroline Wozniacki proudly flaunts her enormous pin collection at Paris Olympics 2024
Caroline Wozniacki has quite evidently been relishing her experience at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She's been pictured out and about the player's village basking in the festivities, taking a particular interest in exchanging pins with athletes from all over the world.
The Danish veteran is participating in her fourth and very likely last Olympic Games. She made her debut back in the 2008 Beijing edition as an 18-year-old, where she lost to fifth seed and eventual champion Elena Dementieva in the third round. She reached the quarterfinals in the 2012 London edition, going down to Serena Williams, once again the eventual champion. That has been her best result so far at the Summer Games.
Wozniacki took to her social media on Saturday, July 27, to give her fans a glimpse of all the Danish athletes at the opening ceremony. Among the numerous photographs she shared, one specifically, where she was proudly flaunting her extensive pin collection, captivated everyone's attention.
Cabo Verde, India, Angola, Italy, Micronesia, Australia, Canada, Monaco, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Egypt, and Spain were among the badges she'd collected so far.
"Wozniacki’s pin collection kinda goes off,"X user @drivevolleys wrote (formerly Twitter).
For those of you unfamiliar with pin-exchanging, it is an Olympic tradition that can be traced back to the first modern Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, in 1896. It involves athletes and coaches trading country or sport-specific pins to establish bonds with as many individuals as possible.
Caroline Wozniacki's round two opponent at 2024 Paris Olympics
Caroline Wozniacki is set to take on Danielle Collins in a tantalizing second-round clash at the Olympics on Monday, July 29. The 34-year-old Danish player saw off a stern test from Mayar Sherif of Egypt in the opening round, coming back from a set down to eventually seal an emphatic 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory.
Wozniacki and Collins have faced off three times on tour, with the former currently leading their head-to-head 2-1. The last time they faced off was in the US Open second round in 2019, where Wozniacki prevailed in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. They've played two matches against each other on clay and have won one each.
30-year-old Collins saw off Germany's Laura Siegemund in the opening round. She was leading 6-3, 2-0, before the German was forced to retire with an injury.
Given her performance on the red dirt this season, Collins is the slight favorite going into the competition. Additionally, Wozniacki appeared unsteady during the first set of her opening match. Nevertheless, fans can expect an incredible match.
