"Champions always keep working on their games" - Serena Williams' ex-coach and Mark Petchey applaud Novak Djokovic for continuously improving himself

Novak Djokovic received heaps of praise from Serena Williams' former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, and former tennis player Mark Petchey as they stated that the Serb has constantly put in the effort to improve his game over the years.

Djokovic has proven his prowess and consistency at the top level once again by bagging yet another title at the Australian Open on Sunday. He beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final in straight sets at the Rod Laver Arena as the player secured the 22nd Grand Slam of his career.

Reflecting on the win, Petchey noted that it is not just the hard work and psyche work that pilots players like Djokovic towards such massive achievements, but rather improvising certain nuanced aspects of their game. As for the Serb, Petchey feels the player has enhanced tremendously in his record of losing the least number of service games.

Similarly, he feels that two of the most improved players in the WTA, possibly Caroline Garcia and Aryna Sabalenka, have changed their service motions which has helped them develop their game.

"Worth noting that two of most improved players on the @WTA in the past year changed their service motions. They didn’t just work harder or do psyche work. @DjokerNole also with his ball toss had the equal least number of service games lost in winning a slam," wrote Petchey in his tweet.

In harmony with this statement, Mouratoglou conveyed that such "Champions" will persistently keep working on their games and improve.

"Totally true. Champions always keep working on their games," the 52-year-old's tweet read.

Australian Open director and Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley feels that Novak Djokovic is focused on whatever he does every minute of the day as he showered praise on the 35-year-old after his title win at the Major Down Under.

Speaking to Australian radio network SEN, Tiley reflected on the Serb's game and stated that he is completely focused and will not undergo a "breakdown" in anything he carries out.

“He’s so focused on everything he does, with every single minute of the day. That’s what he eats, what he drinks, when he does it, how he does it. There’s no breakdown or mental breakdown in anything that he does,” the 61-year-old expressed.

He believes that Djokovic's record of 10 Australian Open titles will never be repeated in the future and that the player has a "significant place" in the history of the tournament.

“He’s been through a lot and to win 10 Australian Opens, I don’t think that’s ever going to be repeated. Over the last 15 years, he tells me it’s 14 years because he missed last year, it’s such a remarkable achievement. He’ll hold a significant place in the history of the Australian Open," he added.
