Chengdu Open 2024: Men's draw, schedule, players, prize money breakdown and more
The sixth edition of the Chengdu Open is just around the corner, with main draw action set to begin on Wednesday, September 18.
Lorenzo Musetti and Alexander Bublik will headline the event as the top two seeds. Nicolas Jarry, Pedro Martinez, Adrian Mannarino, Lorenzo Sonego, and other seeds are expected to make a strong push in what promises to be a highly competitive draw this year.
There have been some notable withdrawals too ahead of the start of the event. The likes of Hubert Hurkacz, Marcos Giron, Gael Monfils, Nuno Borges, Jakub Mensik, and Jordan Thomspon, among others have pulled out.
Their withdrawals have, however, paved the way for other prominent players, including the likes of Borna Coric, Christopher O'Connell, and Shang Juncheng.
What is the Chengdu Open?
The Chengdu Open is an ATP 250 outdoor hardcourt event held annually in September in Chengdu, China.
The tournament debuted in 2016, with Karen Khachanov reigning supreme in that edition against Albert Ramos Vinolas in a three-set epic where he came back from a set down to script an incredible 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 6-3 victory. It replaced the ATP Malaysian Open which was held in Kuala Lumpur.
Five editions have been held so far, with the COVID-19 pandemic playing spoilsport from 2020-2022. Notable past winners include Alexander Zverev and Pablo Carreno Busta.

The Sichuan International Tennis Center in Chengdu, China will play host to the 2024 Chengdu Open tournament.
Players and Draw
Olympic bronze medalist and Wimbledon semifinalist Lorenzo Musetti will headline action at the 2024 Chengdu Open as the top seed. He will receive a first-round bye and begin his campaign against either Christopher O'Connell or Pavel Kotov in the second round. Similarly, second seed Alexander Bublik will receive a first-round bye and will face either Alexandre Muller or a qualifier in his opener.
Third seed Nicolas Jarry will also receive a bye and will face either Adam Walton or Lukas Klein in the second round. Fourth seed Pedro Martinez will also receive a first-round bye and will begin his campaign against either Borna Coric or Aleksandar Vukic.
Fifth seed Adrian Mannarino will begin his campaign against a qualifier in the first round, while sixth seed Lorenzo Sonego will take on Taro Daniel in his opener. Seventh seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard will take on local wildcard Fajing Sun, and eighth seed Roman Safiullin will take on Fabio Fognini.
Local Zhou Yi was also awarded a wildcard and will begin his campaign against Chun-Hsin Tseng. Kei Nishikori, the final wildcard recipient, will take on crowd favorite Juncheng Shang in his opener.
Schedule
The 2024 Chengdu Open qualifiers are scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, and Wednesday, September 18, with main draw matches also starting on September 18. The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, September 21, the semifinals on Monday, September 23, and the final on Tuesday, September 24.
