Dominic Thiem will face Cristian Garin in the opening round of the Chile Open on Tuesday.
Thiem started the 2023 season by failing to qualify for the main draw of the Adelaide International. He then competed at the Australian Open and lost 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to Andrey Rublev in the first round.
Thiem entered the Argentina Open and registered his first win of the 2023 season by beating Alex Molcan 7-6(4), 6-3 in the opening round. However, he lost 6-4, 6-4 to Juan Pablo Varillas in the next round. The Austrian then took part in the Rio Open as a wildcard and lost 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(2) to Thiago Monteiro.
Like Thiem, Garin also has a 1-3 main-draw record so far in the 2023 season. The Chilean's first tour-level event was the Australian Open, where he lost 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to Sebastian Korda in the first round.
He then competed at the Cordoba Open and started the tournament with a 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-0 win over seventh seed Pedro Martinez. However, the 26-year-old lost 7-5, 7-6(6) to Joao Sousa in the second round.

Dominic Thiem vs Cristian Garin prediction
Thiem (#96) and Garin (#98) are both ranked in the same region, but the Austrian will most likely emerge the winner.
Thiem may not be the player he once was but he still has some quality tennis left in him, and more match practice will help him return close to his best. Clay courts bring the best out of the Austrian and he will look to dominate from the start of the match.
Thiem has a solid backhand and will be eager to make the most out of it. He also has an effective serve that can fetch him some free points. The 30-year-old plays aggressively but has impressive defensive skills as well.
Garin also loves to play on the red dirt and will rely heavily on his defensive skills to tire out Thiem and force him to make mistakes. The Chilean served eight aces in his last match and will be eager to serve more of those on Tuesday.
Garin has produced some promising performances on clay before, but Thiem's experience, along with his quality, should take him to the second round of the Chile Open.
Pick: Dominic Thiem to win in straight sets.
