Fifth seeds Coco Gauff and Katerina Siniakova will take on 11th seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the women's doubles final on Sunday (June 9). Two of the four players involved impressed in the singles event as well.
Coco Gauff reached the semifinals of the women's singles event but lost to Iga Swiatek. However, she still has a chance of winning silverware at Roland Garros as she is in the final of the women's doubles event.
The American partnered Katerina Siniakova after reaching the final of the Italian Open with Erin Routcliffe. The pair had an impressive run through the early rounds of the French Open and did not drip a single set up till the semifinals. Here, they faced Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk, and came back from a set down to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
Errani and Paolini, meanwhile, entered the French Open on the back of a sensational triumph at the Italian Open. Like Gauff and Siniakova, the duo had a run to the semifinals without dropping a single set.
They took on Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse and came back from a set down to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 and reach their maiden Grand Slam final as a team.
Victory for Gauff and Siniakova will see the former win her maiden Grand Slam doubles title while the latter will claim her eighth women's doubles Major. If Errani and Paolini come out on top, the former will win her sixth Grand Slam title in doubles. Paolini will clinch her maiden Major of any sort if she and Errani win the final.
