Coco Gauff & Novak Djokovic reign as most marketable tennis players of 2024; Carlos Alcaraz eclipses Jannik Sinner as Emma Raducanu sees massive fall
Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic spearheaded the group of eight tennis players featured in the list of the 50 most marketable athletes of 2024. Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek made their debuts on the list, while Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Aryna Sabalenka returned for another year.
The Sports Pro Most Marketable Athlete list is an annual compilation that ranks athletes based on their 'Marketability Score.' The score is determined by three components, with 'Brand Strength' and 'Total Addressable Market' carrying 35 points each, while 'Economics' accounts for 30 points to generate a total score out of 100.
In the 2024 edition, American gymnastics legend Simone Biles topped the list with a remarkable marketability score of 96.16. Brazilian footballer Vinicius Junior, NBA legend LeBron James, WNBA star Caitlin Clark, and soccer legend Lionel Messi rounded out the top five.
While no tennis player made it to the top 10 of the list, Coco Gauff secured 13th place with a marketability score of 82.50, and Novak Djokovic claimed the 18th spot with 80.04. The duo had secured the top spots among tennis players in last year's edition as well, with Djokovic at 11th and Gauff coming in at 12th.
Carlos Alcaraz (74.99) placed 29th, followed by Rafael Nadal (73.20) in 34th place and Aryna Sabalenka (68.09) ranked No. 38. Jannik Sinner claimed the 47th spot with a 62.76 score, followed closely by Naomi Osaka (62.67) in 48th and Iga Swiatek (61.84) rounding out the list in 50th place.
Although Emma Raducanu didn't make the top 50, she did feature in the top 150 as No. 131, with a 23.13 marketability score. This marked a massive decline for the Brit, as she placed 21st in last year's edition.
Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek set to compete at WTA Finals 2024; Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner gear up for Paris Masters as Novak Djokovic announces withdrawal
Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka will all be in action at the 2024 WTA Finals, scheduled to begin on November 2. The trio will be joined by Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Zheng Qinwen, and Barbora Krejcikova in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
After missing the entire Asian swing to adjust to her new coaching partnership with Wim Fissete, Swiatek will enter the year-end championships as the defending champion. On the other hand, Gauff and Sabalenka will commence their campaigns for their maiden titles at the year-end championships.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will next compete at the Paris Masters, commencing on October 28. While Novak Djokovic has sacrificed his title defense and withdrawn from the tournament, the duo will face tough competition from the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and Taylor Fritz at the Masters 1000 event.
