Gauff had a successful run in 2024 as she ended the year with a bang. She won the last tournament of the year, i.e., the WTA Finals, where she bested several top-notch players, such as Jessica Pegula, Iga Swiatek, and Aryna Sabalenka, to reach the finals. After reaching the final stage of the tournament, she squared off against Qinwen Zheng and dominated the match with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 7(7)-6(2).
Not just this tournament, Gauff proved her billing in the China Open and the Wuhan Open as well. She won the title in the former tournament and reached the semi-finals in the latter one. After having a stellar year, the American is currently in her off-season and is making the most of it as she recently went on a night out with her friends.
Coco Gauff shared a few pictures on her Instagram story, where she was seen posing with her friends in a chic green top paired with blue jeans and white sneakers. In one of the stories, she reposted her childhood best friend, Jamilah Nicolee's post, where the latter wrote:
"My 🫀 "
The next story was a collage of three pictures of Coco posing with two of her friends.
Coco Gauff opened up about being inspired by Serena Williams and Venus Williams
Coco Gauff won the China Open 2024 and became the first American woman to win in Beijing since Serena Williams in 2013. She squared off against Karolina Muchova in the finals and won the match with a score of 6-1, 6-3. Ahead of competing in this tournament, the American opened up about getting inspired by the Williams sisters. While advising the Chinese players, Gauff said:
"Yeah, I think for me like the advice I have just for any tennis player, but especially Chinese, I think me growing up as a black woman in America, not having seen that much representation in the sport of tennis, where it was just Serena and Venus, I think really pay attention to the people playing in the sport," Coco Gauff said.
Calling Serena her idol, she added:
"It's great to see Qinwen doing well on tour. Pay attention to your idols, try to emulate, but not an exact copy. Use them as inspiration. For me, my idol was Serena, so I tried her for as much inspiration as I can from her. We're two different players."
Coco Gauff will supposedly start her 2025 season by competing in the United Cup, slated for December 27 to January 5.
