"This guy really takes this tourism gig seriously" - Comedian Trevor Noah reminisces about Roger Federer being his tour guide in Zurich
Roger Federer recently starred in a hilarious commercial alongside comedian Trevor Noah as the two embarked on a journey through Switzerland, riding on a train.
The commercial titled 'The Grand Train Tour of Switzerland: The Ride of a Lifetime', was released by Switzerland Tourism. The commercial was shot and released in order to boost tourism in the Swiss maestro's homeland.
In the video, Federer and Noah can be seen travelling across Switzerland on a fun train ride, where they take the wrong train but are eventually helped by a kind soul.
In a video released by the Financial Times, Noah spoke about how he always wanted to visit Switzerland given that his father was from there. The comedian added how during his visit to the country, Federer acted as his tour guide.
"Roger came out to the show in Zurich. He was actually my tour guide in Zurich, which was... I was like, wow, this guy really takes the Swiss tourism gig seriously."
The 41-year-old took the conversation forward by suggesting places one should visit during their trip to Switzerland.
"I'd say you probably have to go to Uetliberg, which is sort of just a hill on the side here, it's a nice walk, and you should go for a swim in the lake summer and winter. Potentially I'm not so much the winter swimmer, you know what I mean? It's like not really my thing. There's some good international museums here as well that you can visit.
"And then I just think walking around the famous Bahnhof Strasse, you know, do some shopping and going maybe to the old town as well, a little bit, and then honestly, I mean you drive with a tram or a bus or with a car for 10-15 minutes and you're in a beautiful countryside," Federer added.
Federer became the brand ambassador for Switzerland Tourism in 2021 and since then, the 20-time Grand Slam winner has featured in a couple of star-studded commercials.
The former World No. 1 has previously shared the screen with legendary veteran actor Robert De Niro. In the commercial, the Basel-born tennis icon showed De Niro the breathtaking Swiss Alps through a video call. In another commercial, Federer acted alongside Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway.
Roger Federer looked back on his childhood train rides in the commercial
The recent commercial for Switzerland Tourism, with Trevor Noah, gave Roger Federer a chance to walk down memory lane. He reminisced about his childhood train rides.
In the same video, the Swiss tennis icon talked about how often he was on train rides in his childhood.
“It’s been wonderful. Doing this commercial today with Trevor really brought me back to my childhood a little bit because I was always on trains,” he said.
The veteran further added that he used to look out of the window and wonder whether he would become a successful tennis player or not.
“I remember leaving home, looking out of the window and seeing the trees and the fields go by and thinking, you know, will I be a good tennis player? Will I not? Will I win? Will I not?”
We all know how that question was answered in the course of time.
