Does Laver Cup 2024 offer ATP ranking points? Do the results count in head-to-head? All you need to know ahead of Alcaraz, Tiafoe & co's Berlin stint

The 2024 Laver Cup is all set to be played between September 20-22. The 2024 edition is the marquee event's seventh and will take place at the Uber Arena in Berlin.

The Laver Cup does not award any points to the players on the ATP rankings. However, the matches do register on the individual head-to-head records between players. For example, the official head-to-head between Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios is 6-1 in favor of the Swiss maestro. This record includes three Laver Cup clashes between the pair in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 editions, all of which the 20-time Major champion won.

Even though the event has no points for the players on the ATP rankings, there is a stipulated participation fee for the players and additional prize money for the members of the winning team.

Carlos Alcaraz and Frances Tiafoe will be the big crowd-pullers at the 2024 Laver Cup

For Team Europe, the participation of Carlos Alcaraz is the big news, as the charismatic Spaniard will look to make his Laver Cup debut in Berlin. With Roger Federer retired, Rafael Nadal withdrawing, and Novak Djokovic not playing, Alcaraz will be expected to be the big draw for spectators and deliver the title for Team Europe.

For Team World, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz will be the headline-making players. Tiafoe and Fritz had an excellent US Open, both playing in an All-American semi-final at the Flushing Meadows, a first after 19 years.

Both Alcaraz and Tiafoe are known to be players who engage the crowd in their matches. A potential singles match between the pair might also be a blockbuster. The pair have met three times on the Tour, with the Spaniard leading the head-to-head 2-1. The last two matches, at the 2022 US Open and at this year's Wimbledon, were thrilling five-setters that were won by the World No. 3.

After winning the French Open, Wimbledon, and the silver medal for Spain at the Paris Olympics this year, Carlos Alcaraz will look to make his presence felt at his first Laver Cup. The Spaniard is part of a strong Team Europe line-up that will be confident in its ability to stop Team World from completing a hat trick of titles.

On the other hand, this will be his fifth Laver Cup appearance for Frances Tiafoe, having played in 2017, 2018, 2022, and the 2023 editions. He has a 2-3 record in singles, whereas he holds a 3-0 record in doubles. His marquee moment in this competition came in 2022, when he and his partner Jack Sock defeated the legendary duo of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, in the Swiss player's last competitive match on Tour.

Tiafoe later defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the deciding singles tie on Day 3, to help deliver the first Laver Cup title for Team World.
