"Don't have anything better than comment on 22-year-old's body?" - Amanda Anisimova slams hater for "overweight" remark ahead of Canadian Open final

Amanda Anisimova recently became the target of online abuse amid her successful 2024 Canadian Open campaign. The American issued a stern response to the hater, who seemingly felt it was okay to make inappropriate remarks about her body.

On Sunday, August 11, Anisimova reached the biggest final of her career at the WTA 1000 in Toronto. En route, she earned four straight top-20 wins, dismissing Daria Kasatkina, Anna Kalinskaya, Aryna Sabalenka (quarterfinals), and Emma Navarro (semifinals).

After beating Sabalenka for the fifth time in their seven meetings, Amanda Anisimova disclosed her future goal to be the World No. 1 and win a Grand Slam.

"It's just small steps in the right direction to hopefully achieve the things that I want to be able to achieve, like winning a Grand Slam and becoming No. 1 one day, so, yeah, I hope that with all the training I do and staying healthy, I can get to that point," she said at the Canadian Open, referencing her re-entry into the world’s top 100.

She was, however, subjected to online abuse for sharing her ambition, with one individual making a bizarre remark about her body.

"Why? She wants to be world Nr. 1 player and win a GS. Being overweight as a professional athlete doesn’t really help her reach her goals," the hater wrote on X.

The 22-year-old clapped back at the hater for body-shaming her. She also made her displeasure known about his uncalled-for opinion.

"Don’t you have anything better to do than comment on a 22-year-old’s body? Like do you have a job or friends? Damn dude trust me, I’m okay and I don’t think anyone here is asking for your advice lolz," she said.
"lol literally he lost his hair worrying about people he doesn’t know," Amanda Anisimova added.

Amanda Anisimova is set to face compatriot and defending champion Jessica Pegula in the Canadian Open final on Monday as she chases her third tour-level title and first at the WTA 1000 level.

The Americans have locked horns twice before, with Pegula coming out on top both times. Anisimova would thus hope to turn the tables this time.

The young tennis player returned to competition earlier this year after a seven-month mental health break. Starting the season outside the world’s top 350, Anisimova, a former World No. 21, is set to re-enter the top 50 after her remarkable campaign at the Canadian Open.
