"Dumba** is one word"- Andy Roddick takes cheeky dig at Nick Kyrgios after Aussie calls his comments on Jannik Sinner's drugs controversy 'ridiculous'
Andy Roddick corrected Nick Kyrgios and took a cheeky dig at him after the Aussie stated that he was not on board with the American's comments about Jannik Sinner's doping saga. Roddick claimed there was no chance that the Italian was doping during the Australian Open, but Kyrgios called the statement 'ridiculous'.
Sinner's doping controversy has taken the tennis world by storm. Many fans and famed personalities have made their feelings about the issue known and Roddick was the latest on the list. During the latest episode of his podcast 'Served with Andy Roddick' the American took a deep dive into the saga.
Sinner had tested positive twice in March, which made many question if he was not clean during his first Grand Slam triumph in Australia in January. However, Roddick believed there was no basis for such a claim.
"You get tested at every slam so there's no chance he was not clean at the Australian Open if he tested as much as he did," Roddick said.
The American mentioned Sinner's system contained 'one billionth of a gram' of the performance-enhancing drug called Clostebol.
Kyrgios, who has called for a two-year ban for Sinner, was not on board with Roddick's explanation.
"Do you understand how quickly this stuff exits your system? Cream, gummies literally hours. Ridiculous statement," the Aussie wrote on X.
An X account questioned the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up's knowledge on the matter. They wrote:
"How do you know? Experience? Lmao you are ridiculous bro - give it up"
Kyrgios responded:
"Research. Dumb a**"
Roddick noted the thread of conversation on X and corrected Kyrgios' grammatical error.
"Dumbass is one word …..," he wrote.
Andy Roddick expresses 'love' for community notes after Nick Kyrgios' comment regarding Jannik Sinner's doping saga gets flagged
Nick Kyrgios was one of the first players to speak out against the way Jannik Sinner's drug test situation was handled. He labeled it 'ridiculous' and called for a two-year ban. He also mentioned that the Italian's performance was enhanced.
"Ridiculous - whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah nice 🙄," Nick Kyrgios wrote.
However, it was revealed by Sinner's lawyers that the amount of the banned substance found in his system was 'less than a billionth of a gram'. Therefore, Kyrgios' post on X got flagged by Community Notes. It stated:
"The report says there wasn't any performance enhancing: Professor David Cowan: “Even if the administration had been intentional, the minute amounts likely to have been administered would not have had […] any relevant doping, or performance enhancing, effect upon the player.”
Hours later, Andy Roddick posted an update on X:
"I love community notes."
The former US Open winner was criticized for not speaking out on the controversy unfolding around Sinner. Roddick clapped back by stating that he would not share a 'kneejerk opinion'. He revealed his intention to make a deep dive into the facts on his podcast and he did on his most recent episode released on August 22.
