"Earlier this year I was carb loading, but now I'm distributing New York style" - Taylor Townsend on her dominant 1R win at the Miami Open

American tennis player Taylor Townsend breezed past Hungary's Anna Bondar 6-4, 6-0 in the first round of the Miami Open on Wednesday, March 22.

Townsend failed to make the main draw at the recently-concluded Indian Wells Open after she was ousted by Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko 6-7, 6-1,6-1. She made amends at the ongoing Miami Open, setting up a second-round clash against Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova on Friday, March 24.

Townsend was visibly ecstatic during her interview with the Tennis Channel's Prakash Amritraj following her dominant win. Amritraj jokingly said that the last time he saw her, she was on a strict diet and she was saying no to carbs, however she gobbled up a bagel (6-0 set) in her match.

Townsend joked that before the Miami Open match, she was carb loading and receiving bagels and breadsticks (6-1 set). However, she decided to change that up and is now distributing bagels New York style, paying homage to her home city.

"So earlier this year, I was you know, carb loading, I was receiving bagels and breadsticks so I decided to change that up. You know 2023 started off a little rocky but you know it's all good. Now I'm distributing. I am a New Yorker you know? New York style." Townsend joked
