Emma Raducanu receives wildcard for Miami Open 2023

Emma Raducanu has received a wildcard for the women's singles tournament at the 2023 Miami Open.

The 20-year-old last appeared on court during the Australian Open, where she reached the second round before losing to Coco Gauff. She was scheduled to compete at the ATX Open in Austin, Texas but was forced to withdraw due to tonsillitis.

"I’m sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open," Raducanu said in a statement. "I am currently suffering from tonsillitis and am unable to compete this week. Thank you to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin."

However, it looks like Raducanu will be back in action during the American summer hard-court season. She recently received a wildcard for the Miami Open and said in a video that she was looking forward to competing in the WTA 1000 event.

"Hey guys, it's Emma here. I'm really looking forward to coming to Miami for the Miami 2023 Open and I look forward to seeing you there," Raducanu said.

Emma Raducanu's former coach Dmitry Tursunov spoke about his split with the Brit not long back. The Russian said that he stopped the negotiations as he didn't feel it was a solid commitment according to the terms.

"I stopped the negotiations. I felt like the negotiations went too long," Tursunov said. "Too far that wasn’t a solid commitment, not on the terms that I liked. We started to negotiate over things that were so trivial and insignificant in my mind that it wouldn’t have worked. I didn’t feel secure enough."

Tursunov also said that he did not feel that his professional relationship with Raducanu would be long-term.

"I didn’t feel like it’s a serious set up I didn’t feel like it’s gonna be a long-term relationship," Tursunov revealed. "I felt like it at any point it can break over something insignificant and I could have been wrong maybe I had PTSD, you know, from previous relationships," Tursunov said.

Emma Raducanu has a 2-2 record so far this season and is currently 80th in the WTA rankings.
