Emma Raducanu remains lowest-ranked player in Wimbledon 2024 women's singles draw following her 3R win over Maria Sakkari

Emma Raducanu got the better of ninth-seed Maria Sakkari in the third round at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The Brit is now the lowest-ranked player to remain in the women's singles draw at the Grand Slam.

In the latest rankings released on July 1, before Wimbledon commenced, Raducanu was ranked as the World No. 135. Through her impressive performances in the first three rounds, the 21-year-old is set to enter the Top 100 rankings after over a year.

Raducanu has suffered from multiple injuries and underwent numerous surgeries since catapulting to fame following her 2021 US Open triumph as a teenager. The Brit has finally earned stability as, on her way to Wimbledon, she reached the semifinal and quarterfinal in her preparatory tournaments.

At SW19, she has outclassed all her opponents. In the first round, she got the better of Mexican player Renata Zarazua 7-6 (0), 6-3. She faced a tougher test against Belgian Elsie Mertens but she passed it with flying colors by winning 6-1, 6-2 in the second round.

Ninth-seed Sakkari stood in the way of Raducanu and a second-week appearance at a Grand Slam which had eluded her since her triumph at Flushing Meadows in 2021. The Brit was quick to stave off the threat as she lost only five games and won the match 6-2, 6-3.

The next lowest-ranked player continuing her run at Wimbledon is New Zealand's Lulu Sun. The Kiwi was ranked 123rd at the beginning of the tournament and is continuing her fairytale run into the second week at SW19. The 23-year-old is also the first woman from New Zealand to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon in the Open Era.

Emma Raducanu will take on New Zealand's Lulu Sun in the fourth round at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships for a place in the quarterfinal.

Sun has put up an impressive display at SW19 as she got the better of eighth-seed Zheng Qinwen in the first round after going a set down 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Next, the Kiwi took out Yulia Starodubtsewa in the second round in a similar fashion 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the third round, Sun defeated Zhu Lin 7-6(4), 7-6(6).

Emma Raducanu's best Wimbledon performance is a fourth-round exit in 2021. The Brit will try to better her record with a win as Sun attempts to make her debut Wimbledon run last longer. The pair will face off for the first time on Sunday, July 7.
