Coco Gauff was pleased with her dominant performance in her opening match at the 2024 US Open, taking satisfaction in her commanding start to her title defense. Speaking in her post-match press conference, the American also expressed her desire to keep improving her game throughout her campaign.

"Yeah, I thought I played well today. I served well. Can't ask for a better start into this tournament, so hoping to continue to get better as the week, two weeks go by," she said.

Following her win over Varvara Gracheva, Gauff will take on Tatjana Maria in the second round. Gracheva claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Solana Sierra in her opening match to book her place against the World No. 3.
