"Fear won" - Martina Navratilova sends alarming message to fellow US citizens after Donald Trump beats Kamala Harris to win 2nd presidential term
Martina Navratilova has sent an alarming message to the American voters after Donald Trump secured a second term at the White House. The Republican candidate achieved a comfortable victory over Democrat Kamala Harris.
American tennis icon Navratilova has been a vocal critic of Trump. She has condemned the President-elect on several occasions on social media and urged people to "VOTEBlue," as indicated on her X (formerly Twitter) bio.
However, Trump has now been voted in for a second term as US President. The 18-time singles Grand Slam champion took to X on Wednesday, November 6 to pen a message for the US citizens.
"Well, Trump won. Fear and anger won. And a country that was born as a racist patriarchy proved beyond any reasonable doubt it still is a racist patriarchy. Not sure when this ceases to be true," Martina Navratilova wrote.
The 2024 US presidential election, held on November 5, determined the nation’s 47th president. Late on election night, results began to come in for what was billed to be one of the most closely contested and significant elections in American history.
Trump, who had previously served as President from 2016 to 2020, has secured a second term starting in January 2025, thanks to victories in swing states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Trump was present at West Palm Beach with his VP-elect JD Vance when the results were pouring in. He claimed victory in a speech to his supporters and said:
"This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again... The task before us will not be easy, but I will bring every ounce of energy, spirit and fight that I have with my soul to the job that you've entrusted to me."
Martina Navratilova opened up about why she was against voting for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election
Martina Navratilova was against voting for the Republican candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 US presidential election. She took to X on October 21 to explain her reason, which dated back to the time she lived in Czechoslovakia before it was split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
"I lived in a totalitarian authoritarian country growing up and I will not vote for that now or ever. trump is not pro women- rapist and assaulter- he is against all things trans. A big difference. I support trans people but not male bodies in women’s sex based spaces. Simple."
Adding emphasis to her words, Navratilova pinned this post on her X account. Like her, Andy Roddick had also condemned Trump on social media, while Billie Jean King had publicly endorsed Kamala Harris. However, Trump is set to assume office soon.
