"For the girls": Taylor Fritz's girlfriend Morgan Riddle takes veiled dig at Alexander Zverev's domestic abuse allegations after American beats German
Taylor Fritz's girlfriend, Morgan Riddle, took a veiled dig at Alexander Zverev regarding his domestic abuse allegations. Riddle made these comments after the American defeated the German to reach the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships on Monday, July 8.
The match between Fritz and Zverev was gripping both in terms of gameplay and controversy. The two engaged in a five-set thriller, fiercely contesting every point, but ultimately the American emerged victorious. Fritz won 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-3, setting up a clash with Lorenzo Musetti in the last eight.
During their handshake at the net, Taylor Fritz and Alexander Zverev exchanged words for an unusually long time, both appearing displeased. Later, the 2024 French Open finalist revealed that while his opponent's team was respectful, some individuals in his box who were "not from the tennis world" were "a bit over the top."
"His team is extremely respectful. I think his coach (Michael Russell), his physio, his second coach, they're extremely respectful. I think there's some other people that maybe are in the box that are not maybe from the tennis world, that are not maybe from particularly watching every single match. They were a bit over the top," the German said during a post-match press conference.
The real controversy erupted when Taylor Fritz's girlfriend, Morgan Riddle, posted two videos on her Instagram Stories, seemingly taking a dig at the domestic abuse allegations against Alexander Zverev by his ex-girlfriends Brenda Patea and Olga Sharypova. Although Zverev's case with Patea was settled, he was not declared innocent.
"Cheer loud ladies. When ur man wins 4 the girls," the social media influencer wrote in a now deleted story.
Taylor Fritz on Alexander Zverev being annoyed by people in his box: "I didn't hear anyone being extremely loud"
During a press conference after his fourth-round win over Alexander Zverev at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Taylor Fritz was asked about their conversation at the net.
The American explained that it mainly revolved around Zverev being annoyed by some people in his box, though he himself hadn't noticed anyone being unusually loud.
"I think he was annoyed at some people in my box just being loud, cheering for me. Honestly, I can't hear (them). I don't know. No big deal. He said it's nothing towards me or anything like that," Fritz said.
The World No. 12 added:
"I mean, I don't know. Like I said, I can't hear. I don't really hear my box when I'm playing like that. I didn't hear anyone being extremely loud. He's totally allowed to be annoyed if they were being annoying. Like, again, I don't know. That's one of the things I asked him at the net, Who was it?"
