"For kids' school" - Stefanos Tsitsipas hilariously discloses his and girlfriend Paula Badosa's plans after bagging $250,000 at US Open Mixed Madness

Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas may have some noble plans for their latest earnings, if the latter’s comments are anything to go by. The tennis couple secured a significant $250,000 in prize money following their Mixed Madness win ahead of the 2024 US Open.

Badosa and Tsitsipas teamed up for the mixed doubles charity event on August 20. Other teams in contention for the trophy were Ben Shelton and Coco Gauff, Taylor Fritz and Amanda Anisimova, and Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios.

Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas faced Shelton and Gauff in the one-set semifinal before conquering the remaining American pair of Fritz and Anisimova in the ultimate battle.

The couple, who suffered defeat at the hands of Ben Shelton and Emma Navarro during their Tie Break Tens final at Indian Wells earlier this year, were delighted to succeed in the last hurdle this time. They shared a sweet kiss and posed with the trophy, reflecting on their experience during the on-court interview.

"It was... It was worth the wait," Stefanos Tsitsipas said about their partnership. "We’ve been planning this for a very long time and I’m super glad we made it happen. We had a bitter ending to it last time in Indian Wells where we got eliminated in the final."
"Super grateful that we were able to produce some good tennis, but also in combination with having fun. Getting to share that with that special person that you’ll spend most of your life with, yeah, what a great night," he added.

When asked by interviewer Blair Henley if Paula Badosa gets to keep the whopping $250,000 check, the former World No. 3 joked:

"All the pay check."
"We gotta use it for the kids’ school," he then added, leaving Badosa in stitches.

Paula Badosa, who was forced to miss the 2023 US Open amid her back injury struggles, would look to make up for her last year’s absence this time.

The Spaniard recently made great strides on the tour, winning her first title in over two years at the WTA 500 Citi Open. She also reached the semifinals in Cincinnati, which propelled her inside the top 30, allowing her a seeded position at the US Open.

After winning the Mixed Madness title with Stefanos Tsitsipas, the former World No. 2 also announced that they plan to compete in the mixed doubles category at the New York Slam.

"Well, I have good news! I think you’re gonna see (us) next week – we’re planning to play the mixed doubles," she said in the aforementioned interview.
"So hopefully you guys come and cheer for us and we have the same result as tonight," she added.

Both Badosa and Tsitsipas have yet to reach the second week of the US Open in their respective careers — a feat they would hope to achieve this time.
