Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton kick back after Japan Open, Sebastian Korda joins to celebrate wins from Week 4 of NFL 2024
Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton kicked back after a Japan Open run and turned to follow high-action football currently taking place at the National Football League 2024. They were joined by Sebastian Korda celebrating the wins from Week 4 of the season.
Korda recently triumphed at the Citi Open in Washington. Interestingly, his father Petr Korda had won the same title 32 years ago making them the first father-son duo to win the same title in ATP history. Following the win, he made a second-round exit at the Cincinnati Open and later withdrew from the Japan Open.
Korda took to Instagram to celebrate the Minnesota Vikings' victory over the Green Bay Packers. He shared an artwork of the receiver Justin Jefferson and quarterback Sam Darnold displaying the streak 4-0.
Frances Tiafoe is an ardent fan of basketball and football and the love is returned by players of both sports who are often present in the stands to cheer him. The World No. 15 shared a picture of the Washington Commanders celebrating its third straight win with a score of 42-14 over the Arizona Cardinals.
"3-1 tones," Frances Tiafoe wrote with 'wide-eyed' emojis.
Ben Shelton developed a love for football at an early age and even played football as a quarterback in school. He brought out the fan in him and shared a short clip of a screen playing the final 2:30 minutes of the thrilling encounter between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama eventually came out on top 41-34.
The Americans will likely be heading for the 2024 Shanghai Masters next, scheduled from October 2 - 13 in the Asian swing of the ATP tour.
Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton's run at the 2024 Japan Open
Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe enjoyed an on-court camaraderie as part of Team World at the 2024 Laver Cup that concluded on September 23. After the exhibition event, the duo were back on tour competing at the 2024 Japan Open. The main draw began on Monday, Wednesday 25 and is underway.
Shelton clashed with Reilly Opelka in the opening round. After losing the first set, the defending champion won the match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. He next downed Mariano Navone 6-4, 6-3. In a post-match interview, the World No. 17 reflected on the match and said (via ATP Tour):
“I thought Mariano [Navone] was playing really well today and made things difficult. It was a great match, a different feel compared to my first round, I feel like I’m really coming into form here."
However, Shelton's title defence was ended by Arthur Fils who bested the American, 7-5, 6-7, 7-6.
Frances Tiafoe made an opening-round exit at the Japan Open. The 26-year-old could not move past Brandon Nakashima who won the contest 7-5, 6-3, eventually falling to Ugo Humbert in the next round.
